Curriculum
Active every week, on the field and beyond.
PE at Swiss Gardens is two lessons a week from Year 1, and a weekly lesson plus daily physical play in Reception. Add sports day, inter-school fixtures and swimming, and a lifetime of habits we want children to take with them.
Physical Education
What we teach, how we teach it.
Two PE lessons a week from Year 1 (at least two hours a week in Key Stage 2); Reception have a weekly PE lesson plus daily physical play. Children come in to school in PE kit on their PE days — a round-neck T-shirt in their house colour, plain black shorts, a navy tracksuit and trainers or plimsolls — so we don't lose lesson time changing. The full list is on the uniform page.
Lessons cover the National Curriculum strands: invasion games, net-and-wall games, striking-and-fielding, gymnastics, dance, athletics, and outdoor & adventurous activity. We teach skills explicitly — passing, catching, body shape, rhythm — and give children regular fixtures and competitions to put them into practice.
PE happens on our sports field, the Meads, when the weather allows, and in the sports hall when it doesn't. The Meads is also the venue for sports day. Every year group also has Beach School in the warmer months, learning outdoors on the shore at Shoreham. Swimming is taught at the local pool in line with the National Curriculum's 25-metre target by the end of Year 6.

Wellbeing and the rest of the curriculum.
Wellbeing has its own page — the Wellbeing Room, ELSA, Lego therapy and the staff team who run them. Core and foundation subjects sit alongside.
