Safeguarding & child protection
Child Protection and Safeguarding Policy
How we identify, respond to and report concerns about a child's safety and welfare. Our Designated Safeguarding Leads are Mrs Naomi Doble and Mrs Claire Older, with deputies Ms Jenny Bourne and Miss Anne Backshall.
Allegations against staff and low-level concerns
The process for reporting and handling concerns about a member of staff's conduct — both serious allegations and low-level concerns about behaviour towards children.
Tackling Extremism Policy
Our approach to the statutory Prevent duty — recognising signs of radicalisation and the steps we take to keep children safe from extremist influences.
Safer Recruitment Policy
How we recruit staff and volunteers safely, including DBS checks, references and probation. Required by Keeping Children Safe in Education.
Intimate Care Policy
How we support children who need help with toileting, dressing or other personal care — with dignity, consent and proper safeguarding throughout.
Behaviour & conduct
Behaviour Policy
How we expect children to behave at Swiss Gardens, the consistent approaches teachers use, and how we work with families when behaviour falls short. Underpinned by our FREE values.
Positive Handling Policy
When and how staff may use physical intervention to keep a child or others safe. Last-resort approach, fully recorded, with parents informed.
Acceptable use of mobile phones
Rules for mobile phones and cameras at school, for staff, volunteers, visitors and parents, including taking photos at school events. Pupils in Years 5 and 6 who bring a phone hand it in at the school office until home time.
Mental health & wellbeing
Mental Health and Wellbeing Policy
Our whole-school approach to mental health and wellbeing — for children and staff. How we spot when someone is struggling and how we support them.
Bereavement Policy
How we support a child or family through bereavement, including practical and emotional steps the school takes when a death affects the school community.
SEND & accessibility
SEND Policy
How we identify, assess and support children with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities. Coordinated by our SENCO, Mrs Older. Pairs with the SEND Information Report.
Accessibility Plan
How we make the school physically accessible, communicate accessibly, and adapt the curriculum so every child can participate fully. Updated every three years.
Health & medical
Allergy Safety Policy
How we keep children with allergies safe: staff training, in-date medication in school, our nut-free approach and how we work with families. Written to align with Benedict's Law.
First Aid Policy
First-aid arrangements at Swiss Gardens — trained first-aiders, reporting accidents, and when we contact you about a bump or scrape.
Managing medicines and medical conditions
How we administer prescribed medicines and support children with longer-term medical conditions (asthma, diabetes, allergies, epilepsy). Includes the consent and record-keeping process.
Children with health needs who can't attend school
Our approach when a medical need keeps a child out of school for an extended period — how we keep them connected to learning and reintegrate them when they return.
Curriculum & learning
EYFS Policy
How we teach the Early Years Foundation Stage in our Reception classes — covering the seven areas of learning, the prime areas, and the Early Learning Goals.
Relationships, Health and Sex Education (RHSE) Policy
What and when we teach about relationships, families, growing up and staying healthy — at age-appropriate levels across Reception to Year 6. In line with the statutory 2026 Relationships, Sex and Health Education guidance.
Day-to-day school life
Attendance Policy
Why daily attendance matters, how we support families with attendance, and the formal processes for persistent absence. Term-time leave: rarely authorised, in line with statutory guidance.
School Uniform Policy
What children wear to school, where to buy it, and our approach to keeping uniform costs reasonable. Pre-loved uniform exchange runs every term.
Charging and Remissions
When the school may charge for activities (residentials, optional after-school clubs), what's free, and how families experiencing financial difficulty can ask for support.
Complaints Policy and Procedures
How to raise a concern or formal complaint — the four-stage process from informal conversation through to a governors' panel hearing. Most concerns resolve in stage one.
Statutory & legal
Equality Information and Objectives
How Swiss Gardens meets the Public Sector Equality Duty under the Equality Act 2010 — our equality information and the objectives we publish every four years.
Privacy Notice for Pupils
What personal data we hold about children, why, how long we keep it, and the rights families have under UK GDPR.
Cybersecurity Policy
How we protect school systems, staff devices and pupil data from cyber threats. Aligned with the DfE's cyber-security standards for schools.
Online Safety Policy
How we keep children safe online, in school and at home — covering filtering, monitoring, what we teach, and what to do if something goes wrong.

Separate privacy notice covering data the parent-led Swiss Gardens PTA hold about their members and supporters — independent of the school's own privacy notice.
