Why work here

A strong, happy, caring school community.

Every school says it's special. We truly believe it, but to really understand Swiss Gardens you need to come and see it. Here's a taste of what you'd be joining.

A great team

We do things together.

Our staff call us a "happy little work family". Teachers, support staff, children and families pull together, whether it's the samba band on the Meads, sports day or PTA events.

You'll work with colleagues who know every child by name, and a school community that turns out to support each other.

Children who love to learn

Kind, curious and ready to learn.

Ofsted (2023) rated us Good, with Outstanding for behaviour and attitudes. We love reading, and our new library was opened by Julia Donaldson.

Places to be proud of

Spaces made for learning.

Mary's Garden nature area, our wellbeing room, a music room, an outdoor classroom and the Meads field, all built up with our PTA and community.

Learning beyond the gate

The beach, river and Downs on our doorstep.

Every year group has Beach School in the warmer months, and Friends of Adur help our children learn about the river's wildlife and habitats. The South Downs are just up the road.

“There is an exceptionally strong sense of community between the pupils, staff, parents and carers at Swiss Gardens Primary School.”

About the area

A great place to live and work.

Shoreham-by-Sea sits between Brighton and Worthing, with the South Downs, the River Adur and the sea all around it.

The River Adur
The South Downs
Shoreham Beach

Five minutes from the centre of town you can be walking in the South Downs National Park, paddleboarding up the river, cycling the seafront path to Worthing, or going for an after-school swim off Shoreham Beach.

The town has a proud history of sail and shipbuilding, two Norman churches, its own arts centre, a monthly farmers' market and plenty of cafés, restaurants and pubs. It's a close-knit community, and increasingly popular with young families. If you come here, we're sure you'll soon love it as much as we do.

Other ways to get involved

Volunteering, placements and governors.

We welcome volunteers, including parents and carers who can help with reading or trips, and students looking for a work or training placement. Please contact the office on 01273 453176 or office@sgprimary.co.uk. All volunteers have the safeguarding checks their role needs.

Safer recruitment

Keeping children safe comes first.

Swiss Gardens Primary School is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people, and expects all staff and volunteers to share this commitment.

All appointments are subject to an enhanced Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) check, satisfactory references and the other checks set out in Keeping Children Safe in Education. We may carry out online searches on shortlisted candidates. Our posts are exempt from the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1974.

We welcome applications from everyone. If you need any adjustments to apply or attend an interview, please let us know. Our child protection policy is on our policies page.

We're always happy to show you around before you apply, or to answer any questions about a role.
